Using pliers or a wrench you can undo the connection to remove the shower head by a simple twist. The opening that accommodates the head and its mounting plate need to be properly sealed, least water should keep leaking from the back of the wall.
Since water minerals get deposited in shower heads, they should occasionally be cleaned. You can do that by submerging them in recommended cleaners or rinsing them with vinegar.
